OPERATION RESTORE HOPE
A young Somali boy holding one of the PSYOPS leaflets up to the camera. The leaflet is a hand drawing a Somali man shaking the hand of a US Forces member. In the background of the picture are drawings of an AH-1 "Cobra" helicopter and High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). The drawing conveys to the Somali people that the US is trying to help end their suffering and is here as their friends. The leaflets are being used in direct support of Operation Restore Hope.

OPERATION JOINT GUARD

A US Air Force (USAF) EC-130E Command Solo aircraft Number 63-7828 from the 193rd Special Operations Wing (SOW), Pennsylvania Air National Guard (ANG) on the flight line at Middletown, Pennsylvania (PA). The Command Solo aircraft is being decommissioned after having acquired the highest number of flying hours in the fleet and will surpass 28,000 flying hours on its final flight. The 193rd SOW will transition to the new EC-130J Command Solo II aircraft. The aircraft bears the signature of many of its former and present crew chiefs in honor of its retirement.

Flying over the Pennsylvania countryside in a training mission, the EC-130E/J Commando Solo is a specially-modified four-engine Hercules transport that conducts information operations, psychological operations and broadcasts information in various frequencies. The 193rd Special Operations Wing, Harrisburg International Airport, Pa., has total responsibility for the Commando Solo missions.
